A grey day: Scarlett Johansson (left) and Gwyneth Paltrow both arrive at a photocall in Beverly Hills for Iron Man 2 with similar dresses

As the 'new girl' in the Iron Man movies, Scarlett Johansson must have spent hours choosing the right outfit to wear for her first cast photocall.

So it must have been a tad embarrassing for the actress at the Iron Man 2 photocall last night as her co-star Gwyneth Paltrow also opted for the same shade of dress.

The two women wore similar fitted, knee-length grey dresses, wore their blonde hair loose and nude-coloured lipstick.

Rather tellingly, the two women weren't pictured beside each other - strategically posing with Robert Downey Jnr and director Jon Favreau in between them.

Johansson, 25, showed off her hourglasses figure in a pale grey Roland Mouret dress and Christian Louboutin heels, while Paltrow, 37, flattered her svelte physique in a grey shift dress from Victoria Beckham's Spring/Summer collection and platform sandals.

The glamorous pair joined Downey Jnr, Favreau and co-stars Mickey Rourke and Don Cheadle at the press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, ahead of the film's world première on Monday.

The premiere was originally due to take place in London, but the decision was taken last week to move it to LA due to the flight disruption caused by the Icelandic volcano eruption.

The two women's apparent lack of discussion about what they were wearing to the photocall will fuel further speculation they weren't friendly.

Having starred in the first film as Pepper Potts, Paltrow was reported to be upset role as the film's sex symbol was being replaced by Johansson.

To add insult to injury, Paltrow was missing from the promotional posters from Iron Man 2, while Johansson - dressed in a leather catsuit as the Black Widow - did feature in the images.

However, Paltrow's representative insisted she was 'not at all upset' about being missing from the posters.

Playing down reports of a rivalry, Johansson said: 'I was so lucky because I had Gwyneth to counterbalance all that testosterone. It certainly was a bit of a boys’ club.

'Luckily I am entertained by all of that. I think that for the guys this movie was their playground, they had all of the big toys and all of the big action sequences.

'Luckily I exuded enough femininity to kind of quieten them down a little bit.'

Last year, Johansson denied reports she had sought dieting advice from Paltrow in a bid to slim down for her action role in the film.

She said: 'There was this rumour mill cranking out stories that I had lost 14 pounds - I could never lose 14 pounds. I hate seeing these ridiculous articles where [tabloids] guess someone's weight.

'I have a tumultuous relationship with (my weight) because I love to get ready for the red carpet, but being on it is very uncomfortable. It's so freakish and weird. I get flop sweats, dry mouth, heart palpitations, all over panic.'
