Risque: Olivia Newton-John was terrified the video for Physical would be too sexy
Olivia Newton-John was so scared about the video for her 1981 hit Physical being too risque that she tried to stop it being released.
The 61-year-old actress admits she was terrified that the video for the track, which saw her working out in a tight leotard alongside men in tiny swimming trunks, would ruin her reputation.
Despite her fears, Newton John's now infamous single went on to become an aerobics anthem, and also earned her a Grammy award
She said: 'I didn't want to do it! I told my manager, "Let's not put it out" but he said it was too late, it had already gone to radio and was 10 weeks at No. 1.'
In a bid to tone down the provocative nature of the video, Newton-John suggested to her producers that they set it in a gym.
She added to the Miami Herald newspaper: 'I said, "Let's make it about a workout".
Tight: The actress wore a colourful outfit for the shoot
Setting: Newton-John told producers the video would be better if it was set in a gym
'I didn't want it to go the other way and yet it worked more in its favour. Everything I did against it seemed to help it.
'I insisted on wearing my clothes in the shower and then they said, "It was so sexy when you showered with your clothes on". In retrospect, it's hilarious.'
Popular: The actress performs alongside Glee star Jane Lynch for an episode of the U.S. TV show
However, since the video's release, Newton-John admits she has come to love her now iconic song.
She has even embraced its popularity by recording a new arrangement for the song for hit U.S. TV show Glee alongside actress Jane Lynch.
The Grease star will also appear as a celebrity judge in the first season finale of Glee
