Washed out: Carey Mulligan looks washed out as she strolls around the movie set in a long black coat, Ugg boots on the New York set of Shame earlier today
We're more used to seeing her looking stunning and sophisticated on the red carpet.
But there was nothing particularly glamorous about Carey Mulligan on the set of her latest film earlier today.
With untidy over-bleached blonde hair and dark circles under her eyes, the 26-year-old British actress was made-up to look tired and careworn for her new role.
Unruly: The British actress looked glum as she strolled from her trailer to the set
The star sported a large black padded coat over a white dressing gown as she left her trailer for Shame, an independent film starring Michael Fassbender as a sex addict.
Carey's role is said to be that of his 'wayward younger sister who comes to stay' according to Variety.
Careworn: Carey showed dark circles under her eyes on the set
The film is shooting in the Big Apple for six weeks and is slated for release in cinemas for the end of this year.
With her over-bleached hair showing an inch of dark roots, Carey didn't look too keen to be spotted on the set and held her hand over her face as a type of shield to onlookers.

Also on set today was her co-star Michael Fassbender, who looked equally as dishevelled, with cuts on his face and a grey hoodie and green gilet.
Following Shame, Carey has will be embarking on filming The Great Gatsby, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as title character Jay Gatsby and Tobey McGuire as his friend Nick Carraway.
Mulligan beat off competition from big name stars including Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Keira Knightley for the part of Daisy Buchanan in the movie.

The multi million dollar remake, based on the classic American F Scott Fitzgerald novel, will be directed by Baz Luhrmann and shot in Sydney.
Back in November, the director announced Carey had the part.
He said: 'Regarding the role of Daisy Buchanan, I was privileged to explore the character with some of the world’s most talented actresses, each one bringing their own particular interpretation, all of which were legitimate and exciting.
‘However, specific to this particular production of The Great Gatsby, I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her, “Hello, Daisy Buchanan”.’
After splitting with her Wall Street 2 co-star Shia LaBeouf last October, Carey is now said to be dating British theatre actor Eddie Redmayne.
